The Commercial Diver is not going underwater for Fun!

Commercial divers are people who are paid for the skills they are able to accomplish underwater, and diving is simply a unique mode of transportation. Commercial diving is considered a hazardous occupation. Both the underwater environment and the often-complex procedures necessary to carry out work assignments can present serious hazards to divers’ safety and health. For these reasons, commercial diving requires teamwork and tacit understanding among all the team members, who must be trained, qualified and physically fit for the tasks being performed.

Unfortunately, Local Government Officials, Civil & Marine Contractors (Employers) and Diving Contractors / Divers (Employees) are not always clear about the distinction between Recreational and Commercial Diving. There may be little difference in appearance between a fully kitted-out recreational diver in wetsuit and tank about to explore the coral reef and a commercial diver about to investigate and repair a ship’s hull in harbour, but there is a world of difference in the levels of training, certification, regulation, safety and equipment required.

Mr. Kin-Kwong Li, the Director of Kinetic Key Company Limited (KKCL), is a Registered Marine Engineer and Licensed Commercial Diving Specialist since 1982 and 1990 respectively. Mr. Li started his Marine Engineering career in early 1969 and earned his qualifications and experiences through his employment as Ship Repair Superintendent of Hong Kong United Dockyards Ltd. and Electrical and Mechanical Manager of BBC Brown Boveri (now called ABB) in 1969 – 1984. He is a Specialist in construction and maintenance of Ocean-Going Vessels, including troubleshooting of Marine Diesel Engines, Ship’s Hull and Propeller problems. Mr. Li earned his Professional Registrations in the UK, China (PRC) and Hong Kong since 1982 and has been involved in a variety of Marine Engineering and Commercial Diving projects both above and under water for more than 40 years.

The desire to train quality divers and promote diving related educations led to the formation of Hong Kong Institute of Scuba Training Ltd. (HKIST) and Scuba World Club (SWC) in Hong Kong since 1989, and Scuba World (Shenzhen) Co. Ltd. (SZSWC) in Shenzhen, China (PRC) since 2004. As a Professional Engineer and Diving Instructor over 30 years, Mr. Li has trained and certified more than 4,000 students, including 500 Professional Instructors, and will continue to provide all levels of training courses to enable you to become the best and the most respectable divers and dive leaders in the industrial diving community. With his sound experiences in Marine Engineering and Commercial Diving, Mr. Li has been invited as an Expert Witness at the High Court in Hong Kong to provide expert opinions and advice on Marine, Recreational and Commercial Diving accidents since 1995.
